Jessica Simpson reveals the huge lifestyle change that occurred when she stopped drinking alcohol

Jessica Simpson‘s fears ‘just diminished’ when she quit drinking.

The 44-year-old singer believes sobriety has actually helped her to become more honest and to feel more comfortable in her own skin.

Jessica told The Cut: ‘Around 2016, ’17, I was writing out here in Los Angeles with some of the biggest hitmakers. I have songs from those times that I never released because they just didn’t feel like me.

‘Every time I would write, I was a little afraid of myself. It was almost too much, especially because I was drinking at the time,’ she explained.

‘But once I gave up the alcohol, the fears just diminished. They went away. And it was so much easier for me to access myself artistically.’

The Dukes of Hazzard star said that when she was drinking, she thought she was cool and could find ‘cool words  that would rhyme, that wouldn’t be so expected. I overthought it when I drank.’

Jessica is releasing an emotional-filled EP, called Nashville Canyon Part 1, and the blonde beauty has insisted that she’s not chasing chart hits.

Jessica also acknowledged that the EP is distinctly different from her previous releases.

The singer – who recently announced her split from husband Eric Johnson – explained: ‘Making this record wasn’t about having a hit. It was just about having a vibe.

‘There’s really not a lot of that in Los Angeles right now. It’s formulaic. I wanted to break that mould for myself personally.’

She continued: ‘I don’t care if anything’s a hit. I’m not with a record label. I don’t expect it to even be on the radio.

‘I appreciate that you realize how deeply rooted, in unexpected ways, this project is for me to set myself apart from old versions of myself. It’s not like it’s not me singing.’

Her new song features some gut wrenching lyrics.

‘Go on / Use my heart against me / Double down like I’m your whisky,’ she croons.

‘Drink me in until you’re tipsy / One and done / On the run / Restless soul / Rattle the reverb / Holy Ghost of a believer / I’m the key and you’re the keeper / Here I come / Here I come / Don’t misuse / Don’t confuse / My love.’

Jessica has been working on her new ‘gritty’ revenge album with JD McPherson, 47.

He is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma known for a retro sound.

This comes after DailyMail.com was the first to share that new music from Jess was being released sometime in February.

She is not holding back.

‘She is singing from the heart and there is a lot of pain there, she goes very deep’ the insider said. ‘She has called it the “soundtrack to my soul.”

‘It is a bit like the Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill album. Very raw and full of wild emotion. She will shock the pants off her fans,’ the source added.

Last year she hinted that the album – her first in 15 years – would be about someone who wronged her as she said on social media: ‘This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.’

Though everyone knew the album would come out in 2025, the source has claimed the month is February. ‘It’s ready and it’s coming out with a bang very soon,’ said the source.

'Every time I would write, I was a little afraid of myself. It was almost too much, especially because I was drinking at the time,' she explained

The siren recorded the music in Nashville, Tennessee last year, where she got back to her country music roots.

Jessica and Eric separated last year. The couple share three children: daughter Maxwell, 12, son Ace, 11, and daughter Birdie, five.

The couple hasn’t been spotted together since Birdie’s kindergarten graduation back in June 7, and Jessica’s Instagram has been conspicuously Eric-free since their Easter celebration on April 9.

Jessica raised eyebrows by failing to give Eric a birthday shout-out on his 45th birthday on September 10, further igniting rumors of a marital rift.
