White Lotus season three trailer teases sex, guns, and a dead body… as hit drama moves to Thailand

The first trailer for the upcoming third season of White Lotus dropped on Monday, teasing sex, guns, and a dead body.

The latest season is set in Thailand and stars Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs and a bevy of others who’ve signed on for the popular show from creator Mike White.

The first season premiered in July 2021, was set in Hawaii and received 20 Emmy nominations across 13 categories and 10 wins, the most wins of any program that year.

The second season, which premiered in December 2022, was set in Sicily and garnered 23 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and five wins.

Season three looks to build on the critical and audience success of the first two seasons when it drops on February 16 on HBO.

‘Our hotel is the best in the world,’ an employee says in the trailer, promising that ‘at the end of the week, you will be an entirely different person.’

Posey’s character is not impressed, saying, ‘We usually go to the Caribbean.’

Season one’s Natasha Rothwell is back as spa manager Belinda, who is eager to soak up all the spiritual knowledge she can: ‘I want to learn everything I can and bring the magic back to Maui.’

A trio of pals played by Carrie Coon, Michelle Monaghan and Bibb are ready to get their groove back.

‘What happens in Thailand, stays in Thailand,’ they proclaim.

But it wouldn’t be White Lotus without darkness and drama.

‘Everyone who comes to Thailand, they’re either hiding from someone or looking for someone,’ an employee muses.

Jason Isaacs’ character screams into the phone: ‘What am I supposed to tell my family? “We’re f***ing poor now, and Daddy’s going to prison!”‘

And of course, it wouldn’t be White Lotus without a dead body.

‘Go big or go home, right?’ a staffer asks Belinda.  She responded, ‘Mmm-hmmm. In a g—damn body bag.’

Series creator Mike White returns as writer and director in Season 3, and the cast also includes Sex Ed’s Aimee Lou Wood, Scott Glenn from First Kill and and Lisa from K-pop girl group Blackpink.

White teased that season three is a ‘satirical and funny look at death and eastern religion and spirituality.’

The first season was about money and the second season was about sex.

The official logline for the new season reads: ‘The social satire is set at an exclusive Thai resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week.’

White said that the new season is a ‘supersized White Lotus. It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing,’ per Entertainment Weekly.

He had originally wanted season three to be set in Japan, but HBO encouraged him to look at Thailand due to all the red tape to film in Japan.

White said that the inspiration for season three’s story line came from a literal fever dream White experienced while he was scouting locations in Chiang Mai.

White contracted severe bronchitis while scouting locations in Thailand.

‘I didn’t sleep for, like, two nights, and by the next morning I was like, “I think I have the plot,”‘ he explained to Time.

‘The season is pretty much what happened that night.’

White added that each season’s ending ‘is always the hardest part,’ but that after his fever dream he ‘felt like I had the ending.’

‘And so I was like, “I guess we’re shooting in Thailand,”‘ he explained.
